Slim, light, and noooooisy !!

I love Acer laptops. My past 3 laptops were Acer laptops with i7 processors, and they were amazing. I love how slim and light they are, I love how they have proper USB sockets and HDMI... no need to carry around dongles. And I really love their Swiss-German keyboard layout (double-height Enter key, and the slash and backslash keys are in the right place, unlike similar laptops from, say HP).
I had been waiting for the Acer Edge 16 with AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor to drop in price, and when I saw an offer from InterDiscount, I jumped on it. It's good, but not the revelation I was hoping for.
It's gorgeous, it's crazy light, but for the first day of owning it, it was like having a Dyson on my desk next to me... the fan was often loud, even when I was just doing a bit of internet browsing.
My fiancée commented "Thank God we have headphones... does that [noise] bother you as much as it does me ?" Yeah, yeah, it did.
I installed the latest Acer BIOS update, and used the pre-installed AcerSense app, which seemed to help.

Another thing to be aware of is that the Edge only has two USB-C slots... and one of them is for charging the laptop. So if, like me, you connect your laptop to a network & monitor using a USB-C dongle, then straightaway, you've just run out of USB-C sockets.
The keyboard keeps Acer's great layout, but it feels really plasticky. Typing feels forced, although you do get fairly good feedback on the keys. The fingerprint reader is integrated into the power button, and seems pretty good. Unlike the 16" Acer Swift X, the Edge doesn't try to cram in a numeric keypad onto the keyboard, which is a relief.
Yes, it's amazing to have a 16" laptop which weighs around 1.15kg, but I think they tried too hard to make it like a 15" MacBook Air, but it simply doesn't have the quality (or the pricetag)
One final thing: this morning, my one-month-old Acer Edge 16 laptop had 100% battery. I took it on the train and after being on battery power for just 20 minutes, it said the battery was now at 70%, and it had 2h 46m left of power. (I was using Microsoft Word, nothing else.) The "Power & Battery" app said that 84% of the battery was spent on the "System" services. That's pretty dreadful. So don't ever leave your power supply at home.
Would I recommend this laptop ? Probably.
The screen is gorgeous. But the irony is that I'm going on holiday soon, and because of the Edge's keyboard and the battery life, I'm already planning on taking my 14" Acer Swift instead.....
